A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.

Aster Lake Backcountry Campground is in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, 50 km south of Hwy. 1 on Hwy. 40 and south on Kananaskis Lakes Trail. The closest access is at the Upper Lake Day Use Area. It is 10.8 km from the trailhead via Upper Kananaskis Lake Circuit/Aster Lake Route Trail. This idyllic spot is accessed via an unmaintained trail so is only suitable for experienced hikers, prepared to route find and fend for themselves. No fires are permitted. There are pit/vault toilets and secure food storage lockers.

This trail is 10.8 km one way with 550 metres of elevation gain and is rated hard.
