This trail was constructed in 2021 as an alternative descent to the original scree slope descent from the west col between Mt. Yamnuska and Kid Goat Mountain. Due to changing conditions, the original scree descent is considered hazardous and not recommended.
The West Col Trail offers a more sustainable and safer descent through the forest, travelling through the forest and amongst large blocks of rock to meet up with the original trail.
Alternatively, it offers a nice ascending trail to the West Col with views on the back side into CMC valley. Though still very challenging, hikers may consider the west portion of the Scramble Route more straightforward and a less exposed route to the summit of Mt. Yamnuska. See the description for Yamnuska Scramble Route if considering hiking upwards from the West Col.
Please note: With over 150 climbing routes up the face, it is critical that hikers do not throw rocks over the edge.

Warning: Rockfall hazard exists on this trail, especially in freeze / thaw weather conditions. Be cautious and move quickly through areas with overhead hazard, particularly in the waterfall section of the West Col portion of trail. |
