Event Details

  • Check-in at FWOC table outside the Nordic Center Day Lodge (in the cross-country stadium), from 10am onwards.
  • The Start is located next to the check-in table; start any time between 10:15am and 12 noon.
  • Maximum time on course: 2 hours (after 2 hours, please return to finish and check-in, even if you have not finished your course)
  • Course closing: 2pm (after 2pm, controls will start being removed)
  • SI timing: will be used for all courses. SI fingersticks (including a limited number of SI-Air fingersticks) will be available to borrow at check-in.
  • Whistles are mandatory
  • Bear Spray mandatory (10:00AM: 10 min demonstration on how to use Bear Spray). 

Course Details

  • Novice: 2.3km, 10 controls with 55m of climb. Easier navigation (TD2) as all controls will be placed along distinct line features, such as trails and fences.
  • Intermediate:  3.3km, 11 controls with 80m of climb. More challenging navigation (TD3), with controls set on prominent features (eg. a small hill) near to distinct line features, such as a trail.
  • Short Advanced: 3.9km, 16 controls with 125m of climb (TD5). Advanced technical navigation (TD5; the hardest Technical Difficulty of 5) where most controls are located on small features away from linear features, like trails or fences. Careful off-trail navigation though the forest will be required to find controls on small features (such as a boulder or a small hill).
  • Long Advanced: 5.3 km, 21 controls with 200m of climb (TD5). Advanced technical navigation (TD5; the hardest Technical Difficulty of 5) where most controls are located on small features away from linear features. Careful off-trail navigation though the forest will be required to find controls on small features (such as a boulder or a small hill).

Course Details

  • Map scale: 1:7500 (map recently updated in 2024 & 2025), Contour interval 5m.
  • The "Big Bear" Disk Golf competition is happening over the weekend at CNC and we are required to keep away from the frisbee-throwing fairways. The entire Disk Golf course is marked as "out-of-bounds" on the map and courses have been designed to keep you well away from this area.
  • Please be aware that mountain bikers will be active on the single-track trails and take extra caution on these trails.
  • The advanced courses will cross the paved roller-ski trail; take care when crossing this trail as roller-skis have limited braking ability!
  • The advanced courses will also cross the 30km/h access road in to the Nordic Center; please use caution when crossing.

B Event

B events are more formal than C events.

  • There is a more formal start procedure.
  • These events are timed, using SI.
  • There is usually a wider selection of courses than a (Wednesday) C event.
  • There will be age-classes in championship B events.
