Wetlands

Designed as a 4-hour program, this wetland program is best delivered in the Reesor Reservoir area.  There we investigate both the moving waters of Battle Creek and a still water wetland nearby.  At both sites students will:

  • discuss watersheds and the hydrologic cycle
  • take introductory measurements of physical properties and chemistry
  • capture and identify benthic macroinvertebrates (otherwise known as...bugs...in water)
  • learn about management and impacts and begin to form ideas around consumption and conservation

Rubber boots or water shoes and a second pair of dry footwear is highly recommended!  If travel to Reeser is prohibitive, please contact us to discuss options closer to the Elkwater townsite.
