GPS/Geocaching

We use geocaching to encourage exploration and technical proficiency!  Using park-provided Global Positioning System (GPS) units, your students will go on a navigational treasure hunt.  Expect to elevate your heartrate as we meander through the park, choosing trails or backcountry, and the importance of sticking together. Through the program, students will learn about or experience:

  • the satellite network that assists with positioning
  • the differences between gps and cell phone use for navigation
  • distance, bearings, coordinates and data collection
  • problem solving through indicators and landscape features
