Freshwater Monitoring: A Case Study of the Bow River

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley. Ice Safety: Alberta Parks does not monitor ice conditions; learn how to assess them for yourself.

In partnership with the Elbow River Watershed Partnership (ERWP), this interactive program invites Grade 8 students to explore the Bow River and its watershed. Students will trace the river’s journey from Banff to Canmore, guided by the concept: "The river is an expression of the landscape." Acting as scientists, students will measure both abiotic and biotic factors while investigating the impacts of municipal development, recreation, and other human activities on water quality. The program fosters water literacy and promotes a stewardship ethic through hands-on scientific study and meaningful discussions.
