Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley

Effective Date: April 20, 2026 - Until Further Notice

Where: Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park , You Ain't Nothing But a Hang Dog, Memphis, It's Now or Never Climbing Routes

Details: The left side of Graceland rock climbing area at Grassi Lakes is closed to minimize disturbances to an owl nesting site. This includes the following routes:
  • You Ain't Nothing but a Hang Dog
  • Memphis
  • It’s Now or Never

If you come across wildlife, remember to:

  • Give them plenty of space – at least 30 metres/100 feet (3 bus lengths).
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Keep your pet on a leash.
  • Do not feed wildlife.

Where: Canmore Trail , Canmore Nordic Centre Day Use , Canmore Nordic Centre Day Lodge VisitorCentre , Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park

Details: Numerous black bears, including a black bear sow and cubs-of-the-year, have been seen in the area on and in close proximity to the trails.

Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

  • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
  • Keep your pet on a leash.
  • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible and know how to use it.
  • Secure attractants like food, garbage, pet food and any scented items in hard sided vehicles or bear proof lockers.
  • Learn more about bear safety.
