Directions

Established in 1956 at the request of local residents who wanted a provincial park in the area, Winagami Lake is one of a handful of parks in the province that includes the lakebed within its boundaries. The shallow lake and forest around it are home to many species of birds in the spring, summer, and fall, as well as a stopover site for migrating waterfowl.

The lake provides opportunities for fishing, ice fishing, boating, windsurfing, paddling, and birdwatching. A wading pool in the day use area allows your little ones to cool down on a hot summer day. Approximately 2km of trail provide opportunities for hiking and cycling in the warmer months, and skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Just a 15-minute drive away, the O’Mahony Conservation Area adds over 8 additional kilometres of trail for you to explore.

  • Permitted activities may vary within a park. Please confirm details with park staff.
    • Winagami Wading Pool is open from July long weekend to September long weekend, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, 7 days per week.
    • Be Bear Smart: Read our Bear Safety page.
    • Beach: The sand beach at the day use area is located away from the water.
    • Birding: Winagami Lake and nearby Kimiwan Lake are excellent bird watching areas, especially during spring and fall migrations. More than 200 bird species (both nesting and migratory) have been observed here. There are nesting colonies of grebes, sandpipers, gulls and ducks. Predatory species include merlin and northern goshawk. Bald eagles visit the lake in the fall. One of the park's viewing platforms is equipped with binoculars
    • Fishing: Try shoreline angling for northern pike and walleye.
    • Hiking: Window on the Lake Trail (1 km)
    • Winter Activities: Cross-country skiing, ice fishing & snowshoeing

Hunting in Winagami Lake Provincial Park

  • Hunting of Waterfowl is permitted only over the bed and shore of Winagami Lake, see map or shoreline exclusions.
  • Hunters require firearms discharge permits to hunt game species.
  • Target shooting is prohibited.
