Details:Frequent bear activity has been noted along Valleyview Road from Elpoca Day Use Area to HWY 40 (South) near Little Highwood Day Use Area, including Valleyview Day Use Areas.
Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

Where: Elkwood Campground , Peter Lougheed Provincial Park , Elkwood Campground Amphitheatre
Details:Work will take place from approximately April 20 to June 6, 2026.
To facilitate construction activities, the section of Wheeler Trail between the Elkwood Amphitheatre and Elkwood Parking Lot will be intermittently closed to all visitors during active work periods. Heavy equipment will be operating on site.
We recognize that construction may cause inconvenience; however, this work is necessary to maintain public safety and ensure efficient project completion. Visitors are asked to follow all posted signage, respect construction barriers, and maintain a safe distance from active work zones.
Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones.

Open seasonally, Elbow Pass Day Use Area is the starting point for many activities, including backcountry camping and hiking, fishing, horseback riding, hunting and more. Please ensure that you are aware of the area’s rules and regulations for the chosen activity.
The day use area and Elbow Lake Trail sit between Mt. Rae and Elpoca Mountain to the east and Pocaterra Ridge and Mountain to the west. The three well-signed parking lots are activity specific to equestrians, day use visitors, and backpackers.
