Advisories

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Bear Closure - Rockwall Trail and Meadow Area

    Effective:  September 17, 2023

      • Effective Date: September 17, 2023 until further notice
      • Where: Rockwall Trail adjacent to the Peter Lougheed Discover Centre and Meadow Area.
      • Why: Multiple grizzly bears frequenting the area.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

    Please report all bear sightings immediately to 403-591-7755.

  • Construction Advisory - Hwy 40 from Elpoca Day Use to Cat Creek PRA

    Effective:  September 10, 2023

      • Effective Date: September 10, 2023 until further notice.
      • Where: The project will include sections of Highway 40 from Elpoca Day Use to Cat Creek PRA.
      • Why: Highway paving will be taking place, the Highway will be down to one lane in places.

  • Closure - Elpoca Day Use Area and Valleyview Road

    Effective:  May 31, 2020   Updated:  August 5, 2023

      • Effective Date: Seasonal closure until further notice
      • Where: Valleyview Road from Elpoca Day Use Area to HWY 40 (South) near Little Highwood Day Use Area, including Valleyview Day Use Areas.
      • Why: Frequent bear activity in this area
