  • Closure - Highwood Pass Area Closure

    Effective:  June 14, 2021

      Effective Date:  June 14, 2021 - until further notice

      Where: Highwood Pass area, including, but not limited to, Ptarmigan Cirque Trail, Arethusa Basin, Pocaterra Cirque and Pocaterra Ridge.

      Why: To reduce environmental degradation during wet/snowy conditions and protect the fragile alpine environment.

  • Construction Closure - Turbine Canyon Backcountry Campground

    Effective:  June 1, 2021

      • Effective Date: June 2021 – November 2021
      • Where:  Turbine Canyon Backcountry Campground
      • Why:  Parks is upgrading the campground to align with the new standards for backcountry camping in Kananaskis. Upgrades include new tent pads, picnic tables, toilets and gravel connector trails. The campground will be closed for 2021 and is currently blocked on the reservation system.

      What to Expect:

      • Campground is closed for all of 2021.
      • Trail to North Kananaskis Pass will remain open but access to campground to use toilets or picnic areas will not be available.
      • Bridge over Maude Brook will remain in place for use.
      • Use caution around the area as helicopters will be used to deliver equipment and materials to site.
      • Obey all signage and avoid construction areas for your safety.

  • Closure - Chester Lake Trails Annual Seasonal Closure

    Effective:  May 1, 2021

      Annual Seasonal Closure in place May 1 to June 29 on the Chester Lake Trails as per Ministerial Order #08/12

  • Construction Closure - William Watson Day Lodge

    Effective:  July 27, 2020

      Alberta Parks is replacing the William Watson Day Lodge. The new lodge will enhance the overall visitor experience and safety, and bring the facility up to today’s international accessibility standards.

      To ensure a safe construction site a full closure of William Watson Lodge facilities, potentially up to two years, will be in place for the duration of the project. Day users and overnight guests will not be able to visit during construction.

      Group day users and the public are encouraged to explore nearby alternatives for day excursions.

  • Closure - Valleyview Road

    Effective:  April 10, 2019

      • Effective Date: April 10, 2019 until further notice
      • Where: Valleyview Road from Hwy 40 (North) to Hwy 40 (South) including Little Highwood Pass Day Use Area
      • Why: Wildlife feeding on carcass
