Advisories

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Bear Closure - Boulton Creek (Kananaskis Lakes Trail) to Lower Lake Campground

    Effective:  May 25, 2024

      • Effective Date: May 25, 2024 until further notice.
      • Where: Boulton Creek (Kananaskis Lakes Trail) to Lower Lake Campground.
      • Why: Multiple Grizzly Bears in the area.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

    Please report all bear sightings immediately to 403-591-7755.

  • Bear Closure - Peter Lougheed Paved Trail

    Effective:  May 23, 2024

      • Effective Date: May 23, 2024, until further notice 
      • Where: The Peter Lougheed Paved bike path from Lower Lake Campground to Mount Sarrail Campground. 
      • Why: Bear activity in the area.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

  • Closure - Elpoca Day Use Area and Valleyview Road

    Effective:  May 31, 2020   Updated:  April 17, 2024

      • Effective Date: Seasonal closure until further notice
      • Where: Valleyview Road from Elpoca Day Use Area to HWY 40 (South) near Little Highwood Day Use Area, including Valleyview Day Use Areas.
      • Why: Frequent bear activity in this area
