*Pocaterra Ridge is closed from just past the summit north to Little Highwood Day Use Area (see map). Hikers can travel up to the summit from Highwood Meadows Day Use Area, but then must return back the same way.
- Construction crews will be on site upgrading parking lots, trails and the backcountry campground.
- To reduce danger to hikers equestrian users and climbers as contractors work in the area falling trees, moving heavy equipment around and hauling asphalt for paving.
- There is no alternative for safe parking and trail access.
- It is more time and cost effective. The contractor needs to be able to work efficiently without keeping track of the public in the area. Environment and Parks wants to complete the project as efficiently as possible.
Conservation Officers will enforce the area closure under the Provincial Parks Act. Do not cross construction barriers and follow all signage.
Visitors looking for alternatives can call the Kananaskis Information Line at (403) 678-0760 or stop by a Kananaskis Information Centre.
