Where: Kent Ridge Trail and surrounding area.
Why: A cougar followed hikers on the trail at a close distance.
Although an advisory is in place for this area, cougars can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region and at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a cougar:
Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for cougars and their signs.
Where: Chester Lake area including trails leading to Chester Lake. The High Rockies Trail (HRT) is not affected by this closure. Cyclists / users of this trail must travel directly through the area affected by the closure on the HRT only. No parking at the Chester Lake parking lot or the gravel road; use the Burstall Pass trailhead.
Why: To prevent further trail damage during spring thaw.
