Where: Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park , Evan-Thomas Provincial Recreation Area , Hay Meadow Trail , High Level Trail , Skogan Pass Trail , Stoney Trail , Sunburst Trail , Troll Falls Trail , Hummingbird Plume Lookout Trail

Grizzly bear bluff charged a hiker and got within 4 feet of the hiker on May 4, 2026

Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

• Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
• Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
• Keep your pet on a leash.
• Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible and know how to use it.
• Secure attractants like food, garbage, pet food and any scented items in hard sided vehicles or bear proof lockers.
