Trail Rules & Safety

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.

    General

    • All trails are two-way. Keep to the right and obey posted closures.
    • You are responsible for your own safety.  Understand the risks associated with your activity and plan ahead.
    • Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park provides critical habitat to wildlife.  Bears, cougars and other wildlife frequent the area.  To minimize your chance of an encounter with wildlife, please review our wildlife safety information for the Canmore Nordic Centre and Kananaskis Country.
    • Natural features, weather conditions, fences and other park users could pose a hazard.
    • Notify staff at the Daylodge information counter of trail hazards you encounter.

    Choosing a Trail

    • Trail junctions feature junction numbers and maps to assist in orientation.
    • Winter trails are named.
    • Summer trails are labelled by colour.  In addition to these single track trails, there are also hiking trails.  Check our trails listing by season.
    • Trails are marked with level of difficulty - on the map and on trail signage.
    • Please select trails that are appropriate for your level of ability.
    • If you become unsure while skiing or riding on the trail, dismount.  Walk until you feel comfortable again.

    Winter Use

    Summer Use

    • Most trails are multi-use.  Be prepared to share the trail with others.
    • Do not bike on natural surfaced trails when they are wet.  This damages the trail.
    • In summer, dogs on leash are permitted on trails.
    • Off-highway vehicles and horses are not permitted on trails.
    • The paved loop is designed for roller skiing.  Please limit foot and bike travel.  Yield to roller ski traffic.
