  • Alberta Free Fishing Weekend in July

    • July 6 & 7, 2019 is free Family Fishing Weekend in Alberta - no licence required!

      • Come give fishing a try in provincial parks with water bodies with open fishing seasons (not in national parks). All Alberta Fishing Regulations apply, like size and catch limits, still apply; be sure to be aware of annual changes to regulations
      • This includes all the lakes in William A. Switzer Park - and Jarvis Creek too
      • Check the Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations

  • Parks Day - William A. Switzer Provincial Park

      JulyJuly  20, 2019
      • Come celebrate Parks Day from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Enjoy fun, educational, family-oriented events!
      • Pancake breakfast from 10:00 to noon (donation to Friends of Switzer Park)
      • See wildlife displays, win prizes, or visit the mascots and the Alberta Parks horse patrol!
      • Try Voyageur canoeing on Kelley’s Bathtub or ancient hunting techniques with traditional archery and atlatl spear throwers.
      • Give lumberjack life a go with cross-cut saws!
      • Prize draws at 2:00 at the Visitor Centre
    Where:  Kelleys Bathtub Day Use

    Fee:  Free (donation fee for pancake breakfast)

  • Cardinal Divide Butterfly Count

      JulyJuly  28, 2019
      • Take part in a fun citizen science project! We'll explore scenic alpine meadows, catch and identify butterflies, and contribute to the University of Alberta species database.
      • Meet at the Green Square in Hinton at 10:00 am (in front of the Travel Alberta Visitor Centre).
      • From Hinton, we'll drive to Cardinal Divide together to explore the alpine meadows and catch gorgeous butterflies. 
      • We supply the nets.  Please bring a lunch, water bottle, good hiking shoes, warm clothes and rain gear.  Bear spray too, if you have it! 
      • In case of rain, we'll be discovering wildflowers instead.  There's always something to explore! 
      • The event runs from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.  Stay all day or just for a while.

  • Switzer Park Butterfly Count

      • In case of rain, we'll do some dip netting.  There's always something to explore!

  • Johnson MS Mountain Bike Tour

      • The Johnson MS Mountain Bike Tour is a unique, adrenaline packed weekend unlike any other.
      • The longest standing MS Mountain Bike event of its kind, this ride has something for all riders.
      • Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a beginner rider join us.
      • All you need is a bike and the passion the end MS.
      • With over 300 cyclists in attendance this two-day, 90km mountain ride offers panoramic mountain views, double and single track trails with rest stops as well as additional challenge loops for those experienced riders.
      • Enjoy weekend celebrations that include beer gardens, entertainment, great food and a profound sense of accomplishment.
      • 1st day starts in Hinton, ends at Kelley's Bathtub Day Use. 2nd day starts at Kelley's Bathtub Day Use, ends in Hinton
