Trails

  • Check our latest trail report.
  • The Trails page has descriptions of all trails in Cooking Lake-Blackfoot.
  • More than 170 kilometres of trail originate from four staging areas.
  • Trails are generally moderate or intermediate, in terms of difficulty. 
  • There are several shelters, toilets and a few bus-stop type shelters located along the trails. 
  • Trails are multi-use; signage identifies use restrictions. Every trail intersection has a trail map.
  • Garbage containers are NOT provided along trails or in backcountry areas.  Please pack out all garbage.
  • Low areas may contain water during spring runoff and wet weather.

  • Hunting Orientation Saturday Sessions

    Oct  20, 2018


    • A firearms discharge permits is required to hunt in Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area.
    • Hunters are required to attend an orientation session in order to obtain a firearms discharge permit.
    • To obtain a discharge permit, a hunter must go in person, with photo id. 
    • Please note these sessions are held at Miquelon Lake Provincial Park near New Sarepta, not at Cooking Lake-Blackfoot.

    Note: Discharging firearms is not permitted within 400 metres of the staging areas (boundaries are identified by bright orange-yellow signs) or within 200 metres of backcountry shelters.
