Paleo Preserve Trail

Notice - Shower Building Hours of Operation Notice - Shower Building Hours of Operation

The Paleo Preserve Trail is the first trail on the public scenic loop road. It is the only trail next to the park's specially designated area called the Natural Preserve. The Natural Preserve is off limits to all but park staff, research scientists and interpretive guided tours. Trail signage gives information on the creation of this unique badlands environment and why dinosaur bones are found here. The trail climbs in elevation past hoodoos and pinnacles, around sandstone ridges cut with rills (tiny streams) and through areas of bentonite clay. The views are spectacular! Please use the bicycle stands provided at the trailhead. No bicycles are allowed on the park's interpretive trails.
