Natural Region Description | This area contains a variety of habitats. Marshes provide food and shelter for blue herons, loons and several duck species, as well as moose, beaver, muskrat and mink. Perch and northern pike inhabit the area's lakes. Hillsides where white-tailed and mule deer graze flank the lowlands. Black bears feed on cranberries, raspberries, saskatoons and blueberries. Wolves and coyotes travel narrow game trails. In summer, hillsides and meadows are covered with wildflowers, including the western wood lily. |
