Effective Date: July 7, 2026 - Until Further Notice

Where: Cat Creek Provincial Recreation Area , Fitzsimmons Creek Provincial Recreation Area , Sheep River Provincial Park

Details: Alberta Parks will be conducting vault toilet replacement at six (6) locations in Kananaskis Region. Work will occur at the following locations from July 07 to August 31, 2026 (subject to change and weather dependent):
  • Sheep River Provincial Park: Sandy McNabb Upper Day Use, Junction Creek Day Use, Head Office Parking Area
  • Cat Creek Provincial Recreation Area: Cat Creek Day Use
  • Fitzsimmons Creek Provincial Recreation Area: Fitzsimmons Creek Day Use
To facilitate construction activities, heavy equipment will be working on site and some areas of parking will be temporarily closed to accommodate staging. Temporary barricades and signage will be present to delineate work areas. We recognize construction is inconvenient, however it is necessary to uphold public safety and to support construction efficiency.

Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones.

Where: Indian Oils Day Use , Sheep River Provincial Park , Sheep River

Details: Please be advised of washed out bridge material in the Sheep River approximately 100m downstream from the Indian Oils Day Use Area. The material extends into the flow causing a strainer and other risk of getting hung up with numerous protruding pieces. Caution is advised in this area.

Sandy McNabb Campground is located in Sheep River Provincial Park, 21 km west of Turner Valley on Hwy. 546. There are over 100 powered, well-treed sites suited to RVs and tents. Enjoy the towering pine forest, views of the crystal clear Sheep River, as well as hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails in the area. With a playground for the kids and plenty of space to spread out, this is where families create their best mountain memories.

Potable water will be available at the Sheep Administration RV Dump (year-round). Shower tokens are available off the truck.
