Advisories

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Construction Advisory - Heart Creek Interpretive Trail

    Effective:  September 11, 2024

      • Effective Date: September 11 to 27, 2024, or until further notice.
      • Where: Heart Creek Interpretive Trail
      • Why: Crews will be replacing bridges and upgrading other sections of trail. Equipment and material will be on site in various areas.

  • Construction Closure - Ha Ling Trail and Climbing Routes

    Effective:  September 3, 2024

      • Effective Date: September 3 to October 15, 2024, or until further notice.
      • Where: Ha Ling Trail and Ha Ling climbing routes.  
      • Why: Transalta is conducting rockfall mitigation work in the vicinity; to protect visitors the trail and climbing routes will remain closed for the duration of the project.

  • Bear Warning - Heart Creek Trail and McGillivray Bunker Trail

    Effective:  July 11, 2024

      • Effective Date: July 11, 2024 until further notice.
      • Where: Heart Creek Trail and McGillivray Bunker Trail.
      • Why: Multiple black bears in the area.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

    Please report all bear sightings immediately to 403-591-7755.

  • Construction Closure - Cougar Creek Canyon area

    Effective:  June 14, 2024   Updated:  September 3, 2024

          • Effective Date: June 14, 2024, until further notice
          • Where: Cougar Creek Canyon from the junction of Montane Trail and Lady Macdonald Trail, upstream for approximately 1km.
            • No access to Cougar Canyon for recreational uses.
            • Montane Trail and Horseshoe Loop remain open.
            • Lady Macdonald Trail is open, but may be subject to intermittent short term closures to accommodate construction activities.
          • Why: Construction activities will be taking place to support the Town of Canmore Cougar Creek Sediment Retention Structure Project. To ensure visitor safety around the construction site, Alberta Parks is closing the access to Cougar Creek Canyon for all recreational uses.
