    Starshoeing

    Let the Castle Parks Winter Guides prepare the perfect evening for you. Snowshoe under the starlit sky of Castle Provincial Park. Prior to the activities you can have your own dinner, relax around a campfire, and sip a hot beverage. Hot drinks and mugs are provided.

    Snowshoes are provided (except for March 2), please bring your own headlamps and dress for winter weather. An adult must accompany all youth under 18 years. The event may be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

    Program runs 5pm-8pm, snowshoe departs at 6:15pm. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

    Pine Needle Basketry Workshop

    The Castle Winter guides will be at this year’s Crowsnest Pass Wintervention weekend! Join us for this special event Friday evening from 4:00-6:00PM. Learn to weave pine needle baskets, a traditional artisan skill. Supplies will be provided. This is a free, drop-in event.

    Join your guide for a lunchtime fire at 12:30PM. Please bring your own lunch, we will provide treats and a hot drink. Roasting sticks are available.

    At 1:30 we depart on our snowshoe adventure! As your guide breaks trail, be prepared for up to 2 hours of varied, undulating terrain. Registration required.

    Wilderness Field Series - Navigation

    Go farther, stay safer; an introduction to using practical navigation on your next big adventure. Learn to use landmarks, “handrails”, topographical maps and compass, GPS, and natures clues to keep you on the right track.

    Castle Moonlight Tour

    Join a Castle Winter Guide on a bucket list experience in Castle Provincial Park. Enjoy a campfire and snowshoe under the moonlit sky and be the first to snowshoe the new Syncline Snow Shoe route, with a guide. 

    Meet at 5:00pm for a campfire and complimentary hot beverage. Bring your own dinner. Roasting sticks are available!

    Activities depart from fireside at 6:15pm and finish at 8:00pm.

    Learn or practice your wildlife track ID skills, as well as how to identify plants in the winter. Take a walk with our experienced guides and explore the forest through the quiet signs left in the winter forests. Learn about wildlife safety in all seasons.

    Castle Parks Photography Bus Tours

    Join a Castle Parks Guide on a full afternoon tour of the beautiful Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildland Provincial Park. Enjoy spectacular views, hot drinks and opportunities for wildlife sightings and other amazing winter sights.

    Meet at the General Store in Twin Butte at 11:30AM for an optional lunch with your guide and fellow photographers. We will then board the bus where everyone will enjoy their own window seat. Let your guide take you to some of the most scenic spots in the Castle Parks!

    All levels of ability are welcome. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

    Registration is required as there is a maximum of 12 participants per tour. Register now!

    Join a Castle Parks Winter Guide for an exclusive peek into the winter backcountry! Discover the Castle Parks’ beautiful vistas, immerse yourself in the world of winter wildlife, and gain invaluable backcountry tips and tricks from your guide. This tour also includes a locally catered lunch to give you the energy you need for our adventure!

    This is a full day, intermediate/advanced backcountry trip and may include up to 8km of off-trail travel, and up to 600m of elevation gain and loss.

    Snowshoes, lunch & transportation from Pincher Creek are included.

    Join an avalanche-savvy Guide and learn to interpret snow and weather; they know when things are going downhill!

    Dig snow pits, practice field weather forecasting, and find out where you can learn more about avalanche safety in your community!

    Wilderness Field Series - Overnight Camp

    Join the Castle Parks Winter Guides for an overnight winter camping experience! Our guides will help you with all the skills needed to spend a night out in winter.

    Sleep in a quinzhee (conditions permitting) or tent-it in all-season style. Enjoy your dinner by a roaring fire, take in the quiet of winter, and marvel at the starry skies. And did we mention smores? In the morning, your guides will also provide a pancake breakfast!

    This is the culminating event of the Wilderness Field Skills Series. Whether you have attended previous sessions or are new to the series, everyone and all levels of experience are welcome! Camping equipment, dinner and snacks are not provided.
