Details:Due to below average seasonal temperatures, potable water (drinking water) will not be available at loop/site water taps in the Campground, Group Use, and Day Use for the May long weekend and campground opening.
Potable water will be available at the campground store and at the attached washrooms/shower-house, along with 1 exterior building faucet. Non-potable water is expected to be available from the campground water taps and sani-dump, pending system start up. Non-potable water is not safe for consumption or use and should only be used to put out fires.
Please plan accordingly and bring your own water.

Details:Please be advised that construction on the causeway bridge at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is ongoing. Initial surfacing work is underway and access to Big Island is anticipated to open to the public on May 14, 2026 at 2:00p.m.
Caution is advised when crossing the bridge as it is reduced to a 1-way single lane road access requiring traffic to share the lane and yield to oncoming vehicles. Please reduce speeds and obey flaggers, temporary traffic lights, and signage.
Access to Long Island that has the year-round Comfort Camping, the Community Facility, and Boat Launch will remain available and unchanged. The access to these facilities/amenities and operations have not been impacted by the construction.

Details:The boardwalk portion of Kinglet Trail (part of the interior loop of the island trails) near the entrance of Big Island, is not passable. Please obey all signage for closed trail and use detour.

The Sir Winston Churchill Cabins are located 11 km northeast of Lac La Biche on Long Island, just off the main park road along Nevill Drive. These lakefront cabins on Lac La Biche Lake combine the beauty of nature with the convenience of home. Fully insulated and hard-walled, with spacious floor plans, they’re perfect for adventures in any season. Located close to trails and park amenities, these cabins make it easy to explore, relax, and enjoy everything the park has to offer.
Campers can check in for their cabin stay at the Comfort Camping Registration Building without entering the main campground. This building also offers groceries, camping supplies, and firewood. A second store, the Campground Store on Big Island, provides non-motorized boat rentals (canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards) as well as hard-scoop ice cream.
Big Island also offers a variety of recreational amenities, including an amphitheatre with interpretive programming and several Day Use Areas with scenic viewpoints, beaches, swimming spots, and a network of trails to explore.
During winter, the Big Island Loop Road is closed to vehicle traffic and becomes a 6 km groomed cross-country ski trail, with a cleared pathway for hiking. The interior and exterior trail networks also provide excellent opportunities for snowshoeing. Winter parking is available at the dump station near the entrance to Big Island.

Winter season rate for cabins open year-round is $150/night (Cabins 6-15).
Cabins #1-15 are insulated, hard-walled cabins with spacious floor plans.

Staff are available at the Registration Building at the Comfort Camping Cabin site. Upon check-in, you will receive your cabin door access code.
If you are arriving after 8pm, please call 780-623-8449 to make alternate arrangements.
Peak Season (May 1 – Sept 30): Cabins #1–15 require a minimum stay of 2 nights.
Winter Season (Oct 1 – April 30): Cabins #6–15 require minimum stay of 2 nights on weekends. A 1-night stay is allowed during the week.
Christmas/New Year's (Dec 16 – Jan 6): Cabins #6–15 require a minimum stay of 2 nights.
A mandatory upfront refundable damage deposit of $350 will be pre-authorized at time of check-in with a credit card.
