Birding: Gooseberry Lake is designated an Important Bird Area. Large numbers of shorebirds have been recorded during spring and fall migrations. Sanderlings and red-necked phalaropes are two of the more common species. The lake is a late summer staging area for ducks, geese and swans. Other water birds such as gulls, great blue herons and American white pelicans are common. Gooseberry Lake also supports a small population of the nationally endangered piping plover.
Events: Enjoy a rodeo just north of the park boundary every Father’s Day weekend.
Fishing: A stocked trout pond is located just south of the park. There is no fishing in Gooseberry Lake.
Golfing: The 9-hole Consort Golf Course is located in the park.
Trails: Explore the trails on foot or bicycle.
Star Gazing: With no large cities nearby, the night sky here is dark enough for amazing star gazing, especially in late spring and fall when daylight hours are shorter.
