About Parks

Alberta's parks inspire people to discover, value, protect and enjoy the natural world and the benefits it provides for current and future generations. In 1932, Alberta's first provincial parks were established under the Provincial Parks and Protected Areas Act. Since then, the provincial parks system has evolved from small local recreation sites to a comprehensive parks and protected areas system which conserves landscapes, offers opportunities to experience and learn about nature, and provides a wide range of recreation and tourism experiences.

    Our Story

    Looking to the Future

We conserve Alberta's landscapes for current and future generations.

We offer outdoor experiences for all Albertans.

We promote safe and responsible enjoyment of our parks.

We connect people to nature and heritage through education and interpretation.

We develop and maintain infrastructure to support nature-based recreation activities.

We are a part of local communities.

We involve Albertans in planning the future of our parks, and foster stewardship by offering volunteering opportunities.

It takes a lot of people and passion to do all of the above.

In the parks you'll see information officers, interpreters, conservation officers, and maintenance workers. Behind the scenes we've got ecologists, biologists, planners, policy developers, business managers, and community engagement specialists.
