Drinking Water Advisory - Reduced Potable Water Services

Details:

Due to below average seasonal temperatures, potable water (drinking water) will not be available at loop/site water taps in the Campground, Group Use, and Day Use for the May long weekend and campground opening.

Potable water will be available at the campground store and at the attached washrooms/shower-house, along with 1 exterior building faucet. Non-potable water is expected to be available from the campground water taps and sani-dump, pending system start up. Non-potable water is not safe for consumption or use and should only be used to put out fires.

Please plan accordingly and bring your own water.

Road Warning - Causeway Bridge Access

Access: Access to Long Island with Comfort Camping, Community Facility, and Boat Launch will remain unchanged during this time.

Please be advised that construction on the causeway bridge at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is ongoing. Initial surfacing work is underway and access to Big Island is anticipated to open to the public on May 14, 2026 at 2:00p.m.

Caution is advised when crossing the bridge as it is reduced to a 1-way single lane road access requiring traffic to share the lane and yield to oncoming vehicles. Please reduce speeds and obey flaggers, temporary traffic lights, and signage.

Access to Long Island that has the year-round Comfort Camping, the Community Facility, and Boat Launch will remain available and unchanged. The access to these facilities/amenities and operations have not been impacted by the construction.

The boardwalk portion of Kinglet Trail (part of the interior loop of the island trails) near the entrance of Big Island, is not passable. Please obey all signage for closed trail and use detour.

Refer to the 2026 Campground Map for island trails, and stop by our campground store for a printed copy.

Sir Winston Churchill Campground is located 11 km northeast of the community of Lac La Biche. The campground, situated on Big Island, offers 72 individual campsites with 15/30 amp power. Each campsite is equipped with a fire pit, picnic table, vault toilets, and drinking water taps located throughout the campground.

Campers must check in at the Campground Store, which includes a shower house with flush toilets, laundromat and sells various grocery, camping supplies, firewood, along with hard-scoop ice cream and non-motorized boat rentals (canoe, kayak, paddleboard) for all your adventure needs.

Campground amenities include an amphitheatre with interpretive programming and Campers Beach Day Use Area, offering a playground and picnic area. A network of trails runs throughout Big Island, providing access to all Day Use Areas. A boat launch is available near the entrance of the park on Long Island.
