Ice Safety: Alberta Parks does not monitor ice conditions; learn how to assess them for yourself.
When you want to escape to the peace and quiet of nature but don’t want to venture too far from home, Prairie Creek Provincial Recreation Area is the place to go.
This recreation area is surrounded by trees and has a paved, maintained highway leading to it, but it remains a bit of a hidden gem. Only a short half-hour drive from Rocky Mountain House, it should be your destination for a quiet picnic or fishing for trout in Prairie Creek.
There are several off-highway vehicle (OHV) trails around the area, and while use and off-loading of OHVs is prohibited within the park, it is a great stop on your way to the staging areas for the trails.
Location: 41 km southwest of Rocky Mountain House on Hwy. 752
