Day Use is permitted. Outhouse facilities are open where feasible - be prepared with your own hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Campgrounds open, starting June 1 at 50% capacity. Second RV units will not be permitted on campsites. We are monitoring our actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and will adjust as needed.
  • What to expect in 2020

      May 21, 2020

      What can be expected at Big Knife this year?

      • Camping season begins on June 19, 2020.
      • The campground will be reduced to 50% capacity to meet COVID-19 guidelines from the Chief Medical Officer. Campsites with red tags on the posts are closed.
      • All open sites are first come-first served.  Please self-register at a kiosk and pay with cheques or exact cash.
      • All vault toilets will be open and cleaned on a regular basis within the campground, day use area, and trail system.
      • Boat launch access to river will be open.
      • Playgrounds and group campsites will remain closed for the season.
      • Potable water will be accessible.
      • Please try to be as self-contained as possible - bring water, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes to help protect yourself from contracting COVID-19.

  • Delayed Campground Opening

      March 5, 2020

      Shortened Operating Season - Big Knife Campground - The shortened season at Big Knife is part of the changes to the Alberta Parks system that will allow government to focus its energy on renowned signature destinations.

      • The campground will be open to the public on June 19, 2020, closing on September 7, 2020.
      • While the campground is closed until June 19, river and trail access is still permitted.
