Investigating Ecosystems

Investigate the varied ecosystems of the Cypress Hills during this full-day field study (4-5 hrs). Depending on the grade level, up to four sites will be visited including moving water, still water, a forest, and grassland.

  • Compare and contrast biotic and abiotic features in different ecosystems
  • Use instruments and testing techniques to conduct field tests such as pH and dissolved oxygen
  • Identify and record the variety of organisms living in each ecosystem while establishing a plot or transect
  • Contrast consumption and conservation while identifying ecosystem impacts and relative health
