GPS/Geocaching

Discover the thrill of geocaching - a high-tech navigational treasure hunt for all ages!  Students learn how to use GPS (Global Positional System) to find hidden caches.   They also discover how GPS, compass and map skills help navigate the backcountry.  GPS units are provided for participants to use.

This program includes

  • An introduction to GPS and compass navigation techniques
  • A GPS challenge activity where students work together in small groups
  • Exploratory hike using maps and GPS skills
  • An introduction to the sport of geocaching
