Random Backcountry Camping

Day Use is permitted. Outhouse facilities are open where feasible - be prepared with your own hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Campgrounds open, starting June 1 at 50% capacity. Second RV units will not be permitted on campsites. We are monitoring our actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and will adjust as needed.

Maybelle River Wildland Provincial Park is accessible by a backcountry road 190km north of Fort McMurray on Hwy. 63. 4x4 vehicle access is recommended year-round, as road conditions may vary. For fly-in access and landing aircraft in the park requires authorization from Alberta Parks. OHV and snowmobile riding is permitted pm designated OHV trail only. The parking area adjacent to the trail provides "walk-in only" access to Athabasca Dunes Ecological Reserve. This location has no designated campsite, please be respectful with random camping. This park protects an area of sand plains, dunes and kames surrounding Athabasca Dunes Ecological Reserve.
