  • Music in the Forest - Matt Blais

      JulyJuly  28, 2019
    • This is part of our summer series of Music in the Forest that will be happening throughout the summer at both Cold Lake Provincial Park & Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park.

Powerful vocals, electrifying harmonica, and intense performances define Matt Blais. The rock’n’roll troubadour’s latest release “Fool's Gold“ (Fall 2018) is an edgy and evocative protest song for the modern era. With cutting social commentary and haunting sonics the new track goes behind the curtain searching for authenticity in an increasingly deceptive world. "Just 'cause it glitters doesn't mean it's got soul." Hailing from Calgary the charismatic Blais expands the rock genre by adding a vintage blues edge that, paired with his honest, accessible songwriting style, has resonated with his Canadian audience. His live performances, whether solo or full band, are diverse events balancing high energy, sweaty-rock with emotionally vulnerable ballads. He has been described as Springsteen-esque in stage presence and songwriting ability. To check out some of his music visit his YouTube Channel.

'Music in the Forest' is happening in collaboration between Alberta Parks & SideDoor, sponsored by boom 103.5, boom 95.3, and KOOL 101.3.

  • Music in the Forest - Over the Moon

      AugAugust  10, 2019
    • This is the last part of our summer series of Music in the Forest that will be happening throughout the summer at both Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park & Cold Lake Provincial Park.

Canada's roots/swing duo "Over The Moon" are totally immersed in real cowboy country. When you set up home in the foothills of Alberta's Rocky Mountains, it's inevitable there will be a strong sense of place and the rhythms of the land when you start to play music. The couple's debut album, mostly written and recorded on the ranch where they live, reflects the pulse of life living in a territory that is rugged and beautiful. It's a wild ride from 40/50's western swing and Appalachian old-time, to cowboy blues, all featuring their meant-to-be vocals and a wide array of acoustic instruments. Suzanne Levesque and Craig Bignell are both award winning multi-instrumentaist/vocalists that have spent most of their lives as studio and live performance musicians for other artists. After they discovered that their voices blended together so well that people were often moved to tears upon hearing them sing together, they decided to try their own project. To check out some of their music visit their website.
