Advisories

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Cougar Warning - Kent Ridge

    Effective:  May 23, 2023

      • Effective Date: May 22, 2023, until further notice.
      • Where: Kent Ridge Trail and surrounding area.
      • Why: A cougar followed hikers on the trail at a close distance.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, cougars can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region and at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a cougar:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for cougars and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.

    Please report all cougar sightings immediately to 403-591-7755.

  • Closure - Chester Lake Trails

    Effective:  May 1, 2023

      • Effective Date: May 1, 2023 until June 29, 2023
      • Where: Chester Lake area including trails leading to Chester Lake. The High Rockies Trail (HRT) is not affected by this closure. Cyclists / users of this trail must travel directly through the area affected by the closure on the HRT only. No parking at the Chester Lake parking lot or the gravel road; use the Burstall Pass trailhead.
      • Why: To prevent further trail damage during spring thaw.

  • Closure - Elpoca Day Use Area and Valleyview Road

    Effective:  May 31, 2020   Updated:  April 25, 2023

      • Effective Date: Seasonal closure until further notice
      • Where: Valleyview Road from Elpoca Day Use Area to HWY 40 (South) near Little Highwood Day Use Area, including Valleyview Day Use Areas.
      • Why: Frequent bear activity in this area
