A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley. Ice Safety: Alberta Parks does not monitor ice conditions; learn how to assess them for yourself.
  • Partial Closure - Peter Lougheed Discovery Centre (Museum only)

    Effective:  February 10, 2025

      • Effective Date: February 10 to April 11, 2025, or until further notice.
      • Where: Peter Lougheed Discovery Centre (Museum only).
      • Why: The Visitor Centre will remain open to the public during this time. However, to facilitate cleaning and refurbishment activities, temporary closures to the museum will be in effect. The Contractor will install temporary barricades, fencing, and signage to delineate work areas. Please respect all signs and fences as well as stay away from any active work zones. Visitors may experience intermittent noise disturbance within the Visitor Centre.

  • Closure - Blackshale Suspension Bridge

    Effective:  November 22, 2024   Updated:  February 11, 2025

      • Effective Date: November 22, 2024, until further notice.
      • Where: The High Rockies Trail suspension bridge over Blackshale Creek.
      • Why: The bridge is unsafe for public use in winter because snow depth affects handrail height, and the bridge’s design does not account for the additional weight of snow.

    Effective:  May 31, 2020   Updated:  February 11, 2025

      • Effective Date: Seasonal closure until further notice
      • Where: Valleyview Road from Elpoca Day Use Area to HWY 40 (South) near Little Highwood Day Use Area, including Valleyview Day Use Areas.
      • Why: Frequent bear activity in this area
