Nature-Based Learning: Building Outdoor Classrooms for Student Engagement

    Description: Kananaskis Country’s Environmental Education specialists will work with your school to enhance outdoor and nature-based learning, helping educators create meaningful experiences for students in natural environments. This hands-on workshop will provide educators with practical strategies for utilizing outdoor spaces effectively while fostering connections to the land through engaging activities and core environmental education principles.

    Educators will gain:

    • Practical models and planning tools - to establish and maintain an effective outdoor classroom routine year-round.
    • Active games and wellness activities - designed for schoolyards and nearby natural areas, promoting physical activity and student engagement.
    • Core land-based learning techniques including exploratory and observational approaches, nature recording tools, and storytelling.
    • Ideas and strategies for both new and experienced educators, with activities adaptable to different seasons and school environments.
    • A deeper understanding of environmental education principles that foster student connection and inspiration through nature.
