Leaving the Îyâmnathka parking lot near the information kiosk, follow a wide trail as it crosses a gravel road, then climb for 1 km to where the official trail terminates at a Y-junction.
Beyond the junction, the trail to the left is a climber's access trail leading to the face of Mount Îyâmnathka; there is a high likelihood of dangerous rockfall in this area and it is not recommended for hikers. The trail to the right is unmaintained, unsigned and leads to the east ridge of Îyâmnathka. This portion of the trail is an out-and-back route so you must return the same way; there are no safe options to make a loop.
On the west side of the ridge, a cliff blocks the route at the "Chimney" and beyond this, the Îyâmnathka Scramble Route climbs into alpine terrain. If you are an inexperienced scrambler you should not attempt this route as many people have been lost, seriously injured and even died on the Mount Îyâmnathka Scramble.
Please note: With over 150 climbing routes up the face it is critical that hikers do not throw rocks over the edge.
