Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley

Effective Date: June 22, 2026 - Until Further Notice

Where: Kananaskis Country , Kananaskis Public Land Use Zone, Lusk Pass Parking Area, Jumpingpound Summit Parking Area, Prairie Creek Parking Area, Powderface Ridge North Parking Area, Powderface Ridge South Parking Area

Details: Parking areas along Powderface Road will be temporarily closed for construction. All trails outside the closure areas will remain open. The following designated trails will remain accessible by travelling around the fenced closure areas: Lusk Pass, Jumpingpound Ridge – Lusk Climb, Jumpingpound Summit, Prairie Creek, Powderface Creek, and Powderface Ridge. Expect increased industrial traffic on Powderface Road, and please obey all posted signage.

Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones.

Details: The Special K Trail in Kananaskis Country Public Land Use Zone is temporarily closed due to collapsing bridges. For more information, call 310-LAND (5263) or the Moose Mountain Bike Trails Society.

Where: Baldy Pass Trail , Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park , Lusk Pass Trail , Mount Baldy scramble routes (including North, South and West ascent/descent trails), Mount Baldy climbing crag.

Details: Due to a close encounter with a cougar.

Although an advisory is in place for this area, cougars can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a cougar:

  • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for cougars and their signs.
  • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible and know how to use it
  • Keep children close.
  • Keep your pet on a leash at all times.
  • Learn more about cougar safety.

This trail is popular with downhill mountain bikers and hikers.
The trail is 13.7 km from Baldy Pass Trailhead to Lusk Creek Day Use Area or 15.9 km from Wasootch Day Use Area to Lusk Creek Day Use Area.
Baldy Pass Trail can be made into a loop if combined with Highway #40. From Baldy Pass Trailhead, the trail crosses Highway #40 and, after 1 km, begins a steady climb to Baldy Pass. The view from the pass is obstructed by thick forest.
If starting at Lusk Creek Day Use Area, hikers, bikers and equestrian users traverse through a timber harvested zone which provides nice views of Barrier Lake, prior to a final steep climb to the pass.
The shortest return distance to Baldy Pass is 7.4 km and starts at Baldy Pass Trailhead, returning via the same route.  


Equestrian riders are permitted only on the first 7.5 km of trail from Lusk Creek Day Use Area and can only get to within 2.5 km of Baldy Pass.
