Details:The section of Highway 40 from Kananaskis Lakes Trail to Highwood Junction is currently under a Bear Warning.
Grizzly bears, and other wildlife, are currently utilizing the highway as a travel corridor to avoid the snow pack at higher elevations. Hikers and cyclists should plan their route accordingly and remember to give wildlife space during this critical feeding time.
Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

Highwood Junction Provincial Recreation Area is 44.5 km southwest of Longview at the intersection of Highways 541 and 40. The park is named after the Highwood River, which runs parallel to the park. The day use area features a grocery and supply store, a sewage disposal station, and potable water, making Highwood Junction an excellent place to stop on your way to exploring and camping in Kananaskis Country.
