Day Use is permitted. Outhouse facilities are open where feasible - be prepared with your own hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Campgrounds open, starting June 1 at 50% capacity. Second RV units will not be permitted on campsites. We are monitoring our actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and will adjust as needed.
  • Partial Closure - Barrier Lake Visitor Information Centre Closed as of April 1, 2020

      Partial Closure - Barrier Lake Visitor Information Centre will be closed as of April 1, 2020. 

      This closure is part of the changes to the Alberta Parks system that will allow government to focus its energy on renowned signature destinations and examine opportunities for other groups to operate smaller parks and day-use areas. Click here for more details. 

  • Construction Closure - Canoe Meadows Group Camp and Day Use Area

      March 1, 2020

      • Effective Date: March 1, 2020 – June 26, 2020
      • Where: Canoe Meadows Group Camp and Day Use Area
      • Why: Alberta Parks is undertaking construction at Canoe Meadows Group Camp and Day Use Area to modernize infrastructure, enhance site amenities, improve Lower Kananaskis River accesses and increase parking capacity. The entire site, including river accesses, trails, the group camp area and the day use area and parking lot, will be closed to the public between the dates noted above to facilitate construction and will remain completely closed until construction is complete. Heavy equipment, working crews and hauling trucks will be active on site during construction. The public is asked to obey all closures, construction signs and barricades until construction is complete. Please help to make this project a success by respecting site closures.

       

      Access: Those who wish to access the Lower Kananaskis River during construction may do so at the Barrier Visitor Information Centre. After June 8, 2020, river users may also access the Lower Kananaskis River at Widow Maker Day Use Area.

      Egress: Lower Kananaskis River Users must take out at the Barrier Visitor Information Centre or at Seebe.
