Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area

Alberta Parks

Officially named Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Grazing, Wildlife and Provincial Recreation Area, this park supports a variety of outdoor recreation activities, as well as grazing and Indigenous and seasonal hunting.

Nature Senses

Can you hear the cheerful song of a robin? Spot the vibrant colors of the forest? Smell the earthy scent of the trees? In this immersive program, students use their five senses, just like animals do, to explore the natural world around them.

Whether you're visiting a provincial park or exploring a green space near your school, this hands-on experience helps children connect with nature, spark curiosity, build sensory awareness, and encourages playful learning outdoors.

Students will:

  • Take a sensory walk to discover the sights, sounds, smells, textures, and even tastes of nature
  • Imagine and act out how animals use their senses to find food, stay safe, and explore their environment
