Trails Conditions
Hiking &
Cycling Trails
  • Trail conditions remain Fair to Good.
  • Crossing any hazardous area is entirely at your own risk.
  • With summer conditions prevailing the trail conditions remain fair to good and in places / areas there is, down trees, localized flooding, washouts, mud holes, and beaver activity.
  • Waskehegan Trail North of Meadow Shelter to Central Alleyway has some flooded areas - plan accordingly. 
  • Connector Trail South of Meadow Shelter to Don's Way has a beaver trench across it - plan accordingly. 
  • Grouse Trail has some areas flooding and beaver trench across it - plan accordingly.  
  • The fence line South from Waskehegan to Don's Way has some beaver trenches - plan accordingly.     
  • Be aware of natural hazards such as rocks, potholes, muddy areas, downed trees, flooded areas and open water may be encounters on the trails. 
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
  • Moderate Fire Hazard.

Horse Trails
  • Trail closures in effect for some Equestrian Trails - see below !!
  • CLOSED - NO ACCESS -
  • 1) WAPITI (north end) - Closed from Blackfoot Trail to NUL Intersection - IMPASSABLE - water and beaver damage to trail - dangerous footing for horses - culverts cannot be seen underwater - KEEP OUT
  • 2) WASKAHEGAN (North) - Closed from Dynamite Lodge to Central Alleyway - IMPASSABLE - water and beaver damage to trail - dangerous footing for horses - culverts cannot be seen underwater - KEEP OUT
  • TRAIL HAZARDS
  • 1) BLACKFOOT (North of Waskahegan Staging Area) - Beaver trench / Washout Culvert - horse and rider only - USE CAUTION or choose another route! 100 m east of the Blackfoot / JJ trail intersection - NOT PASSABLE BY WAGON 
  • 2)BLACKFOOT (West of Wapiti Junction to Baker Springs Bridge) ** 2 locations - Exposed culverts / trenches due to high water / Beaver activity - USE CAUTION or choose an alternative route to Running Dog Shelter
  • Crossing any hazardous area is entirely at your own risk.
  • With summer conditions prevailing the trail conditions remain poor to fair and in places / areas there is, down trees, localized flooding, washouts, mud holes, and beaver activity
  • Be aware of natural hazards such as rocks, potholes, muddy areas, downed trees, flooded areas and open water may be encounters on the trails. 
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
  • Moderate Fire Hazard.

  • This sector is CLOSED TO HORSES from Dec 1st to April 1st annually.

  • With summer conditions prevailing the trails still have some down trees, localized flooding, washouts, mud holes, and beaver activity.

  • Lake levels are Good and Open for canoeing, kayaking, paddle boards & etc.
  • No motorize watercrafts in Cooking Lake / Blackfoot PRA
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
  • Moderate Fire Hazard

Note: All dogs must remain leashed while within the Cooking Lake – Blackfoot, Wildlife, Grazing, Provincial Recreation Area and dogs are not allowed on the track set trails. Thank you.
