What is a shared/double site?

  • Shared or double campsites are two campsites that are located very close together and may share a firepit.
  • They are suitable for camping parties that want to camp together.
  • Each campsite can be booked separately.
  • If you only book one campsite, you may have to share the firepit with a neighbour.
  • Campsites will be identified as a shared/double site on the reservation website as a note for awareness when booking.

What is a multi-unit site?

  • Multi-unit campsites must have two or more prepaid units for each campsite at time of booking.
  • These sites are a large area with one fire pit and 2 picnic tables.
  • Multi-unit campsites are currently available at Wyndham-Carseland and Little Bow Provincial Park.
  • Site notes for multi-unit sites are shown on Shop.AlbertaParks.ca indicating the size of each of the two campsites.

Does Alberta Parks have a Seniors' discount?

  • Yes, they do in certain Alberta Parks campgrounds as long as they are an Alberta resident.
    • Alberta Parks has introduced a camping fee discount of 25% as part of a government commitment to support affordability for Alberta seniors.
    • The discount will be available to seniors 65 years of age or older on reservations made online or by phone, and at first come, first served campgrounds (some exceptions apply).
  • Discounted fees will be shown on Albertaparks.ca, at the campground and at checkout when reserving through Shop.Albertaparks.ca.
  • For more details on how to access the discount and participating campgrounds, visit the Camping Fee Discount for Alberta Seniors webpage.

What is fair and equitable access?

  • Overbooking: In our previous camping reservation system, the camper agreement noted that booking a reservation which included more nights than needed was not permitted, and persons engaging in overbooking could have their reservation cancelled. Shop.AlbertaParks.ca will help keep camping as fair and accessible as possible by limiting the practice of overbooking and making sure campers are only reserving dates that they intend to use.
    • For reservations booked on the first day of the booking window (90 days in advance for individual campsites and backcountry camping and 180 days in advance for comfort and group camping) campers will not be able to change their arrival or departure date for 31 days.
    • Campers can still cancel their reservation during this time period as well as change details (i.e. camping accommodation units, number of people).
    • This does not apply to reservations booked well within the booking windows.
  • Sliding: Reservations cannot be moved or changed until the entire dates of stay, including the departure date, are within the 90-day booking window in order to prevent sliding.

Troubleshooting

How do I make an individual campsite reservation?

The date I wish to camp isn’t available. What can I do?

  • Shop.AlbertaParks.ca allows users to choose and view date range flexibility if their desired arrival date is not available.
  • When adding your desired arrival date, below the "Arrival date", there are options to select if you are flexible with your dates. If you are flexible, be sure to select either "Flexible for next 2 weeks" or "Flexible for next 4 weeks" to see more availability.
  • You can view availability on the campground map. Green coloured campsite labels indicate the campsite is available. Black coloured campsite labels indicate the campsite is unavailable.
  • You can also view campsite availability by selecting "Date Range Availability" tab or enter a date and length of stay in the "Enter Dates" search function to see if it is available for other dates outside of your preferred arrival date.

How do I change or reset my password?

  • View our PDF guide for how to change or reset your password.

Why can’t I find the campground I am looking for?

  • Shop.AlbertaParks.ca is set up to search at the park level as opposed to the campground level, meaning you can search the park name to find the campground, group use area or comfort camping units. Most campgrounds have been set up to match to the Park if you search for the campground name.
  • For example, if you want to stay at Elkwood Campground, search Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
  • For backcountry campsites, click on the "Camping & Lodging" drop down menu in the top navigation menu and select "Backcountry Camping". From there, you will be able to find a backcountry campsite by using the "Permit Area Map" feature.

Tip: Before making a reservation, use the search function on AlbertaParks.ca to research park and campground information.

How do I add an additional camping accommodation unit to my campsite?

  • When reserving a campsite, add your primary unit information and then press "add other equipment". From there, you can select the days in which the additional equipment will be on site (e.g. if the extra tent will only be for the first or last night of your stay).
  • The maximum number of camping accommodation units, motor vehicles, and towed equipment permitted on a campsite is three, and only two of these may be used as sleeping quarters (accommodation units).
  • Exception: if two tents are used as sleeping quarters (accommodation units), two motor vehicles, or one motor vehicle and one piece of towed equipment are permitted on the campsite if it is large enough.
  • The camping fee is charged for each accommodation unit on a campsite, unless one or both of the accommodation units on a campsite are tents.
  • A campsite must be large enough to accommodate the maximum number of allowable units. The total length of each camping unit entered must not exceed the total site length, including tow vehicles.

How do I find a campsite’s size and maximum unit length?

  • When selecting a site, use the "Looking For" drop down menu to select RV Site. From there, you can add your RV or camper’s length to have the sites that will accommodate its size appear and omit the sites that will be too small for your accommodation unit.
  • Alternatively, you can find information on the site’s maximum unit length size by clicking on the site, then scrolling down to the "Site Specific Information".
  • Campers need to know their entire unit size, including the length of the vehicle and trailer. For example, if you have a travel trailer that is pulled behind truck, you have to ensure that both the travel trailer and truck together will fit in the 40ft site.

What are Group camping fees and collection of camping accommodation units?

  • Group camping areas require a minimum of either 5 or 10 pre-paid camping accommodation units at the time of booking, dependent on each group area.
  • Each group camping area lists both the minimum number of camping units required as well as the maximum number of camping units permitted.
  • To make a group area booking, under Camping Unit Accommodation Unit(s) campers enter the Primary Equipment such as an RV/Motorhome. This equipment defaults to ‘1’.
  • Campers must "Add Other Equipment" and select the additional camping accommodation units with the quantity for each type.
  • The total number of accommodation unit equipment entered must meet the minimum number of camping units required.
  • Camping fees for the minimum number of units required will be charged as the Use Fee.
  • Any camping units entered over the minimum will be charged as Additional Fees.
  • Once all camping accommodation units are added and the date is selected, any applicable service fees (power, water, firewood, shower, etc) or additional camping accommodation unit fees over the minimum number required will be added.

Tip: Before you make a reservation, research your desired site on AlbertaParks.ca for prices listed with all applicable service fees included.
