Where Does My Water Come From? - Video/Indoor Activity
Most of us can turn on the tap and have potable (drinkable) water. We flush toilets and shower without much thought of where our wastewater goes. In this activity, students will draw their house and indicate water sources and exit points, then investigate where this resource travels. Extension activities focus on graphing household water usage while encouraging a water conservation ethic.

Water Walker – Josephine Mandamin
Video/Indoor Activity/Outdoor Activity
17, 000 km. 11 pairs of sneakers. 3 knees. Josephine Mandamin, an Anishinabek Grandmother from Wikwemikong First Nation on Manitoulin Island, walked for water. She walked, prayed and sang for the waters of all five Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River from 2003-2009. Josephine’s teachings provide an Indigenous way of understanding a water ecosystem and provide an opportunity for students to integrate knowledge from different worldviews.

Vicki Perkins
Vicki Perkins has been an Outdoor Educator for over 20 years. As the Formal and Environmental Education Coordinator in Kananaskis Country, she is dedicated to providing opportunities to engage youth and teachers within Alberta's protected area system. Vicki holds a Bachelor of Education and Science degrees, as well as, an Honors Bachelor in Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism. In her previous roles as a park’s interpreter, a classroom teacher with Indigenous youth and as an education specialist for the United Nations Development Program, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her position. Vicki is passionate about the natural world and protecting it for future generations.
