Between August 27th and October 25th, 2010, Albertans were invited to share their feedback on a proposal to re-classify Redwater and North Bruderheim Natural Areas as Provincial Recreation Areas and add lands to both sites.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposal. Valuable input was collected during this public consultation process.
All of the information gathered from public feedback has been reviewed. Please take a look at "What We Heard".
Based on feedback received, Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation has re-classified Redwater and North Bruderheim Natural Areas as Provincial Recreation Areas, and expanded the sites by adding more than 640 hectares of land. This public land was reserved for inclusion into the natural areas for several decades and its addition to the parks will help manage recreation use on adjacent land.
Motorized recreation will be permitted at both Redwater and North Bruderheim PRAs, and we will work closely with local municipalities and the local RCMP to manage recreational use.
Under the new classification, public safety will be improved by establishing hours of use, minimizing fire risks by prohibiting random camping and random fires, and enforcing theGaming and Liquor Act.Increased management may also include installing signage, designated trail, parking and staging area development, enforcement and education.
Hunting will continue to be permitted in both sites. However, under the new classification, visitors will require a firearms discharge permit prior to hunting. For more information on how to obtain a firearms discharge permit, please visit http://www.albertaparks.ca/albertaparksca/visit-our-parks/activities/hunting.aspx.
