Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation (TPR) has recently deregulated a small portion of road from Hilliard's Bay Provincial Park, near High Prairie.
Hilliard's Bay Provincial Park is located on the northwest shore of Lesser Slave Lake. It offers camping and day use opportunities which are enhanced by the park's location on the shore of one of Alberta's most popular fishing and boating lakes.
The 0.8 kilometer section of road which was deregulated connects the park access road to Hilliard's Bay Estates, a private cottage development. In the past, the road was maintained and operated by the M.D. of Big Lakes through an informal agreement. Deregulation of this portion of road transfers ownership to Alberta Transportation, and the M.D.'s administrative control of the road is formalized under the Municipal Governments Act. The Government of Alberta will continue to own the road, and public access through the park will be maintained.
