Lakeland Alberta Parks offers curriculum-aligned environmental education programs for Kindergarten to Grade 6. Programs are designed to support classroom learning through hands-on and outdoor experiences. Activities emphasize land-based learning and encourage student engagement through inquiry, exploration, and experiential learning. A detailed program guide is available for all In-Park Environmental Education programs. With advance notice, customized programs to meet specific outcomes and goals may be possible, pending staff capacity.

Locations

All school programs are delivered by enthusiastic and knowledgeable Alberta Parks interpreters. Programs are available at the following locations:

Beaver Lake Provincial Recreation Area: Located just outside of Lac La Biche
Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park: Located just outside of Lac La Biche
Lakeland Provincial Park – Shaw Lake Day Use Area: Located 25 km northeast of Lac La Biche

Availability

All programs must be pre-booked, and are available on a first come, first served bases.
Our school programs are available Wednesdays through Fridays, from late May to the end of June.
We can combine program elements, offer programs back-to-back, or run programs concurrently to accommodate multiple classes or larger groups.

Fees and Class Size

Programs are designed for a maximum of 30 students per class. Larger groups may require split programming or adjusted schedules. At minimum, one adult supervisor must be present for every five students. Please ensure you have enough volunteers before the field trip.
Each program is $50 per session. An invoice will be provided after the field trip, and payments should be made by cheque payable to the "Government of Alberta".

Field Trip Preparation

There’s no such thing as bad weather—only bad clothing! Please ensure students are dressed appropriately for the outdoors. Our team is unlikely to cancel a program unless weather or air advisories pose a safety risk. If a field trip is cancelled by the school or teacher, rescheduling may not be possible due to limited availability.

For a successful field trip, we recommend the following:

Coat or jacket
Hat
Closed toe shoes (no sandals, please)
Water
Sunscreen
Bug Spray
Lunch / Snacks
