Legal Land Description
Boreal Forest Natural Region

Located just 20 km west of Grande Prairie, Saskatoon Island Provincial Park is an island of forest in a sea of farmland. The park offers a full range of recreational activities including camping, hiking, boating, swimming, berry picking and wildlife viewing. Saskatoon Island is a federal migratory bird sanctuary. The lake, forest and shrub land habitats are home to an incredible diversity of birds including the threatened trumpeter swan.

  • Saskatoon Island Provincial Park is located within the Grande Prairie Important Bird Area; the park is home to large numbers of grassland, forest & lakeside birds; rare trumpeter swans can be observed from viewing platform on Little Lake; the Friends of Saskatoon Island Cooperating Association holds a swan festival in the park each April.
