Construction Advisory - Sandy McNabb Day Use Area and Access Road

July 27, 2017

  • Effective Date: Monday, July 31 until Saturday, September 30, 2017 
  • Where: Sandy McNabb Day Use Area, access road and river bank 
  • Why: The day use area will be getting cleaned up, the access road will be reconstructed and the river bank will be armed for flood mitigation.  The contractor, DFH Enterprises, will be mobilizing into Sandy McNabb on Monday, July 31.

Bear Warning - Sandy McNabb Campground

July 15, 2017

  • Effective Date: Friday,  July 14, 2017 until further notice
  • Where: Sandy McNabb Campground
  • WhyA young, black bear was observed at the edge of a campsite in D loop of the Sandy McNabb Campground.  The bear retreated immediately upon observing people in the site.

Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in Kananaskis Country at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

  • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
  • Keep your pet on a leash.
  • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray (video).

Notice - Washed Out Bridge Material in Sheep River

June 20, 2017

Please be advised of washed out bridge material in the Sheep River approximately 100m downstream from the Indian Oils Day Use area. The material extends into the flow causing a strainer and other risk of getting hung up with numerous protruding pieces. Caution is advised in this area.
