Management Plans

Like the ecosystems it protects, Kananaskis Country is always changing and facing new challenges. Park planning and policy informs current and future decisions about Alberta's parks with management plans that

  • Describe parks and the surrounding environment and community
  • Identify government goals for the park and how these goals will be achieved
  • Provide objectives and guidelines on how the natural and cultural heritage of a park will be preserved
  • Detail the type and extent of recreation, education, and tourism opportunities that will be supported in an area, and how they will meet the needs of the community
  • Provide opportunities for ongoing review and public consultation on park management

Government of Alberta staff, in consultation with First Nations, stakeholder groups and the general public, prepare and update management plans.
